What: Ami and Asami sneak into the old school building! Others can join too!
When: 8:30PM, some night in June?
Where: Old School Building
Who: Ami, Asami, others!

People in school knew Ami as one person. Asami as Ami's only friend had begun to see a different side to her. And tonight it was almost as if a whole other side of Ami was coming out. A girl who had grown up playing fantasy games and wishing every single day that magic was real so that she could change her body and become who she wanted to be, she had grown up to be a little excited by adventure and the lure of possible mystery. Because if if something beyond explanation could exist at all, that meant there was a chance, no matter how small, that her dream could actually come true.

So when Asami found Ami crouched down by the fence outside the old school building, she'd see the young idol in all black, with plenty of adventuring supplies. She wore a pair of tight black jeans, sneakers, a black turtleneck, and her hair was put up in two buns on the side of her head out of the way. She had a smalls length of rope coiled and hanging from her shoulder, as well as a stack of ofuda she had made from designs online.

"Asami-chan, over here!" she whispered from her hidden spot, waving a short hand to her friend.

Eager to get revenge on these girls who were ignoring his powers of awkwardness and discomfort, Kaunko took over before Itsuki could speak. He had suddenly vanished from where he stood, to stand next to Asami.

"Beasts lurk here, young woman," he said, in a voice that gets under your skin. "Beasts, lowly as the most loathsome worm and disease-bearing vermin that you could imagine, yet larger than anything you've ever seen. How does that make you feel"

"He's not a pet. Don't be rude to him and he won't antagonise you. Right, K-kun?" There was a hint of warning in his tone. As if in afterthought, Takuro nodded and added: "He's right, though. Worms are pushovers, and the rats aren't too bad, but there is something much bigger in here. Asami-chan has the right idea. Go straight ahead at the next corner."

The room had a way out other than the hole they'd entered from. It was hidden behind the paper screen of moving reeds. There, though hard to find, was a gap on the wall - and it led into a hallway.

The kids wouldn't have noticed immediately, not in such deep darkness, but this corridor didn't look like it belonged to the school. There were no classrooms, and if there were doors they were old fashioned Japanese sliding ones. There were windows looking out into the courtyard, which would imply it faced the outside, but none of the kids would remember seeing this side of the building...

"Huh. I'd never seen this before... I wonder if it's like that subway," Itsuki said, speaking mostly to Takuro, but loud enough for the girls to hear. "Where there's parts of the building that regular people can't see..."

The kamui honked.

Asami practically jumped at the challenge. "Then I'll beat them! After I beat you!" It was not her fault if people baited her with her weaknesses - obviously done on purpose.

She rushed to open one of the sliding doors and peered around it curiously. "Oh," she said. "This is really like my house." But then she heard what the brown-haired boy said and looked back at him. "Huh?"

[identity profile] cakesnake.insanejournal.com 2013-02-23 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, the other day Takuro-kun and I were trying to get on the subway, but then it turns out that there's like," Itsuki gestured a lot with his hands, though there was no clear message being conveyed by them, "And it's like... there were doors and people that, you know, normal people can't see. Imagine if you have, um... a closet! And then every day you open it and then there's just, you know, a wall there. And your clothes I guess. But then one day you get the prescription for your glasses adjusted, and you open the closet and you realize there's been a door in the back all along!"

He smiled, happy at his metaphor. "And then Takuro-kun and I got in the closet, and three giant worm punks tried to kill us. Innat right, Takuro-kun?"

[identity profile] fantasy-skies.insanejournal.com 2013-02-23 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Be careful." Takuro smiled at Ami. "We were educated about karma today. If you want us to leave, I'll do so in good conscience."

Putting that distraction to the side, the shorter boy nodded in agreement with his friend. "In simpler terms, it seems there are some places that are hidden by magic, Asami-chan. Now that you can use magic, you can access them. That's as much as we know so far, anyway."

THE PLOT HAS ARRIVED

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-24 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That’s when the kids saw a light in the distance, on ground level. It was pale, narrow-- but in the absence of most non-snake based illumination, it sure stood it. A slit, a gap between floorboards that let them look into the story below. And along with the light came voices, carrying from below.

“They’re here, then,” said a voice, male, calm, and a bit gruff.

“Yes,” another voice, lower, and louder, replied. “There’s two groups of them here! Ohhhh, I can’t believe these kids. They have guts, alright! Can you believe they blew up the rat guards? They blew up the rat guards...“

“Mmm...” the more tempered voice said, without any particular emotion attached to it.

By this point Ami, Asami and the boys (and the horrible Horse of Discomfort) would be close enough to peek down. There, in a brightly, warmly lit room, they would spy two figures... though only one was visible, the one that the louder voice belonged to. It was a squat-looking Oni in a security suit - the one Mitsuya had encountered before. And he stood by an ornate desk that had a stash of treasure.

“Takuro-kun,” Itsuki whispered to the other boy. “Isn’t that some of the stuff that was in that room we fell into the first time?”

Meanwhile, the two figures below went on talking.

“So what do we do now?! Do we go gut them? Should we cut off their arms and use them to slap one another? That’ll teach them respect! That’s how my mother taught me!”

“She cut off your arm...?” the other voice asked, disinterest briefly suspended.

“Yes.”

“But you have two...”

“I got better!” The Oni growled. “No self-respecting Oni lets getting your limbs cut off get the best of you! You just grab ‘em and stick ‘em back on!”

“Right...”

“But you haven’t answered yet? What do we do?”

“I’m going to go take care of the ones on this story. You should stay here,” the voice said, calmly. “And watch the very important treasure that by no means should be left in their hands, making sure that, no matter what, they don’t surprise you by dropping down from the ceiling, hitting you on the head, as in,

“Right!” the squat Oni said, only to pause. “Er! Aren’t you being overly expository, sir?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about...” said the voice, before its presence moved...

It was, Takuro would sense, the largest presence he’d felt. Only it was now shrunken, dulled-- no less powerful in his mind, but it was as if these beings could, when so desired, stand out less...

And then the room below them was left in the charge of the squat oni.

Asami looked down and discovered that, in the way of very bad spies, she could think of nothing better than squatting and hoping she wasn't discovered. The light had been small at first, and unremarkable. But then it had grown wider and she now heard voices.

She felt a little uneasy and held a hand over her stomach. At which all thoughts she had that this was unnatural made her feel like backing up and getting the heck out of there.

And, just like the voice, she had no idea what it was talking about.

[identity profile] fantasy-skies.insanejournal.com 2013-02-25 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, suspend our current objective," Takuro whispered to Itsuki so as not to be heard by the being below. "We can escape after we've gathered up the treasure." Feeling more confident than perhaps he should have, he bent down further and placed a testing palm against the floorboards.

"I propose we get down there, kick that guard's ass and then check out what it is we're not meant to get to," he murmured to the party as a whole. "Any objections?"

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-25 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"You won't hear one from me, young master. I like getting down..." said the horse, who was crouching behind Takuro before the boy could even realized he'd moved, "and checking out things I'm not meant to have..."

Whenever Takuro would overcome whatever reaction this caused, he'd turn to see Kaunko giving a thumbs up.

Itsuki's contribution to the thread

People could watch the frown grow on Asami's forehead. She looked up from the eavesdropping hole, a little annoyed.

"Be quiet!"

With a strength of 4, Ami gets a +2 bonus for her newly developed idea Lightning Punch. Now, let's see what happens.

The oni was, at the moment, busy in his own thoughts. This is unusual for oni - by and large not the brightest creatures - in that it was using its head. Perhaps this is why Murphy's law came into effect.

The whole ceiling dropped with a sound like thunder roaring. Boards of wood, dust, teenagers and oversexualized horse demons came down-- and by the rules of magic, came down three times as all the kids felt time loop repeatedly, as it would in a dramatic scene of a movie or TV series. Crash. Crash.

CRASH!!!

And before they knew it, the oni guard had been buried under a whole lot of youthful enthusiasm and debris. It took a moment for the dust to settle, and yet, inexplicably, all the kids would be okay with their fall. Perhaps a little sore, but okay.

[identity profile] fantasy-skies.insanejournal.com 2013-02-26 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Takuro crawled bodily over Itsuki to roll off the pile of broken timber and he got to his feet with minimal effort after their fall.

"Well, I'm not sure we need to fight the guard anymore..." he murmured, brushing dust from his pants. "That was pretty impressive."

[identity profile] cakesnake.insanejournal.com 2013-02-26 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Itsuki rubbed his head, a bit stunned. After checking that people around him (but particularly those important to him) were alright, he clicked his tongue. "Oh my, um, I hope he's not dead..."

Honk.

"Well I'm... I'm sure he's sturdier than that, Kamui."

A deadpan honk.

"Gosh. W-well, maybe he'll recover from internal bleeding? Or-- maybe he'll get hospital care. Er. Do oni have hospital care?"

"He works for the public sector. So chances are no," said Kaunko.

One instant the ground was correctly horizontal and then the ground suddenly changed angle under his feet. (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/savedacitydesu/4969.html?thread=193385#t193385)

Akito had that very brief sensation of a short, missed step...and then a sudden drop that did more than leave his stomach behind.

As appropriate a time as this would've been to swear for once, Akito only managed a surprised, instinctive yelp before the back of his head hit the floor as he hit the impromptu slide on the way down, down down-

He briefly saw a figure that disappeared too fast to make much out. He saw a lot less he hit the basement floor with a loud 'OMPH' that sent his glasses off his face. Akito groaned, instinctively feeling for them (and missing them), "A-Araragi-san-" oh yes, he was would repay this one day,"-are you alright-"

But as bad as Akito's sight was without his glasses, he could still make out figures, even if not the details beyond blurs. He straightened, a mask of collection instantly snapping into place, and looked at them with unfocused eyes. He muttered the safe thing, "Not alone indeed..."

As he said that though, there was an instinctive panic. They looked humanoid but were they 'human' or like the 'rodent'?

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-26 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, the sudden arrival of new kids was unsettling, disturbing for many, even, but if there was someone who wasn't easily surprised, it was the tall, muscular figure that approached the boy from behind. "Are you alright?" he asked, slipping hands under Akito's arms to help prop him up, dusting him off a little too, in an act of politeness that probably did very little to compensate for the fact that, should Akito have his glasses on, he'd notice he was right in the face of some tanned, oiled pectorals.

"You dropped this," said Kaunko, pushing glasses up against Akito's hand.

[identity profile] grinandbear.insanejournal.com 2013-02-26 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah-"

And up Akito went. He processed what little he could see and tell: Human voice. Human arms, fairly strong. Different sort of smell. Some kind of cologne or oil.

Akito stared at the blurry shape in front of him for a moment before that 'sheepish', self-deprecating smile snapped, 'gratitude' on his face and in his voice. "Thank you very much, sir..."

And then he put on his glasses.

He'd been right on his previous points. Human voice and arms and there was most definitely a lot of oil. The S&M gear, unexpected but that would have just been out of place and uncomfortable.

It was the fact it was an S&M equine nightmare standing right in his face that made Akito's eyes go wide as he jerked back, nearly unbalancing himself again in the scrambled back peddle, and a choked sound (he'd later hate, once he was thinking again) escaping his throat that came out as, "Holy shit-"
