What: Ami and Asami sneak into the old school building! Others can join too!
When: 8:30PM, some night in June?
Where: Old School Building
Who: Ami, Asami, others!

People in school knew Ami as one person. Asami as Ami's only friend had begun to see a different side to her. And tonight it was almost as if a whole other side of Ami was coming out. A girl who had grown up playing fantasy games and wishing every single day that magic was real so that she could change her body and become who she wanted to be, she had grown up to be a little excited by adventure and the lure of possible mystery. Because if if something beyond explanation could exist at all, that meant there was a chance, no matter how small, that her dream could actually come true.

So when Asami found Ami crouched down by the fence outside the old school building, she'd see the young idol in all black, with plenty of adventuring supplies. She wore a pair of tight black jeans, sneakers, a black turtleneck, and her hair was put up in two buns on the side of her head out of the way. She had a smalls length of rope coiled and hanging from her shoulder, as well as a stack of ofuda she had made from designs online.

"Asami-chan, over here!" she whispered from her hidden spot, waving a short hand to her friend.

"Out? Is it really so dangerous that you and your... servant can't protect us?"

Mitsuya actually sounded almost petulant. After all the time she'd taken to get in here in the first place--although it seemed as though what she'd come for might in fact be in here anyway.

"Surely we can at least take the time while we're here to see what this room has to offer. Such a fortuitous coincidence shouldn't go to waste, after all."

"I'm all right," said Asami, looking more annoyed than fine. It was hard to believe that she was happy being the last to do anything - if you knew her.

Her brows were furrowed; she looked near frustrated. The speed at which she was keying numbers into her mobile seemed to burn with a kind of fire.

"And I'm already on it."

It seemed that she wasn't used to being out this late. Though, whether it was something she wanted or was expected for was anybody's guess.

What was that quote again? Oh yes. 'This must be what going mad feels like'. Akito didn't particularly dislike people but he could dislike circumstances and how people (and horse demons apparently) could make him react. Or dislike himself for giving off such a big genuine reaction, no matter how extreme the circumstances had been.

For now, Akito had his collected mask back on.

"Well, it isn't out of our way to see what's here as long as we're quick about it," Akito agreed. He fiddled with his glasses, looking 'worn'. "After all, I doubt we'll have or should have much of a chance to come back here once we leave." After a moment's thought, Akito added, half 'teasing' half 'serious' as he looked around at the group, looking for tells or reactions, "I must admit. All the magic, demons, and catch all supernatural goings on does explain a lot of sudden interest in this building."

"I'm afraid I can't let you all leave just yet," a voice cut in.

It was the voice Mitsuya had heard the day she found the magical item cache, the voice that was on the phone. And the voice Ami, Asami, Takuro and Itsuki had overheard from above. It came from the door to the room, the one way out now, since the fallen floor board from above was a bit too steep to climb up.

It belonged to a man who should've looked like he was in his 20s, but looked more in his late 30s. Disheveled, with slight bags under his eyes, and a general air of "I'm not getting paid enough for this." He was wearing a security uniform - the suited man that the kids had seen on his way down, too?

He looked around with a dull look before beginning, in a deadpan tone. "Well, it is true what they say. It's easier to catch flies with honey than with vinegar."

The expression was different (the face on the way down was panicked) but that suit looked cheap enough to have been the same man.

And yet another abnormally collected person.

Akito's practiced 'let's-be-reasonable' smile slid on, though he 'nervously' fiddled with his glasses again. "'Yet' does imply we can leave at some point somehow though, correct?"

Preferably not while dead.

The man eyed Akito, landing him a long and appraising look. It gave Akito an opportunity to actually see that this man had eyes that deserved a well-thought metaphor. "Eyes like daggers" would be inappropriate, as the aggression was more veiled. "Eyes like a hawk" might not be entirely fitting either, since hawks this tired would drop from the sky.

Point is, they were very sharp.

"Yes. It could be in ten years, for example. Or a hundred. Careful with your wordplay," he said, shaking his head a little and advancing further into the room. "I believe this is... almost everyone that's come in rummaging through our stuff. There's still two missing," he continued."

[identity profile] fantasy-skies.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
"There's two more?" Takuro asked, confused. "I didn't see anybody else, though..." Since the arrival of this new threat, Takuro had shifted closer to K-kun and Itsuki on the principal of safety in numbers.

"I was kind of expecting you to be- well, bigger."

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Now the man's eyes turned to Takuro, narrowing slightly. "A hermit, huh. Well, maybe you need to wipe your eyes a little... or be a bit more careful. You'd think someone who summons demons would know how dangerous it is to judge by appearances..."

Then, for just an instant, everyone in the room would feel a tremor in the air. A sort of reverse vertigo, for instead of looking down from a very high place, they were at the feet of something very, very tall, though only Takuro could see it... the dark, blazing shape of a feathered beast, tall like the building itself. Then the feeling stopped.

"When you're old enough like me, you learn a bit about modesty, and not showing off just how big you are."

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Kaunko frowned. His eyes blazed with flame.

"You could have made like three innuendos there... And yet you didn't. How could you...?"

Hibiki had remarked on Akito's eyes; a distant, dully amused part of Akito wondered what Hibiki would've had to say about this man's. Probably similar to what Akito was thinking now: very sharp, very dangerous, and if he had to pin a metaphor, he'd think of this man's more like a dragon's. A old, tired but safely assured in its power dragon.

That was the image that came to mind when that tremor of reverse-vertigo hit Akito.

It was taking a lot of fighting natural instincts to keep holding onto his mask and not look as nervous and suddenly very, very worried he now was. And there was one thought: the dragon hadn't decided to lazily swat them down just yet, which was either a hope spot or more reason to worry.

"Well," Akito paused long enough to make sure that what words left his mouth were even enough, "what would it take for us then for us to be allowed to leave?

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
The man moved further into the room. There was a sound like something had hit the floor boards-- and suddenly the room was much brighter, if in a cold, unpleasant color. Purple flames erupted behind the man, and rapidly spread to box the room, sealing off all four corners of it. The purple light hit the gold on some of the relics there, reflecting red at points.

"I'm not sure if you noticed the attire, but I'm the security guard. I am--"

Red letters appeared before the man. And again, not in the most dignified manner.

WATCHMAN!

"And I'm here to protect the treasure stashed in this old building, and to serve the order of not letting anything, or anyone, get out with the treasure, or learn their secrets... so," he coughed, "unlessyouweretoescapeorbeatmeinbattle, thusprovingyour superioritytomymaster", cough, "Or maybe if you made my task obsolete... But, oh," dry tone, "that won't happen because I'm afraid I will hold you here and punish you all for your transgression. Hah... hah..." he added, somewhat dryly, lacking the passion of someone who actually cared about their job, or the malice of someone who actually had any sadistic intention to punish highschoolers. "Oh, boy," he added, deadpan, "You're all in for the detention of a lifetime..."

"Ah!" Takuro had flinched back from looming figure, towering over all of them for a flash of a moment. It had been alarming when it was on the other side of the building, and with it just a couple of feet away it was terrifying.

Fear resist roll: 3

Takuro shrunk back behind Itsuki. "I... I don't think we should fight him... Please, Itsuki-kun, we need to go." He tugged plaintively on his friend's sleeve, breath getting uneven. "P-please..."

[identity profile] cakesnake.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
Itsuki was a little tense. He hadn't seen anything, but he'd felt the presence. It had made the kamui on his shoulder honk menacingly - which was unusual for the otherwise pleasantly honking snake.

"B-but... how do we get out?" he started aloud. There didn't seem to be a way out. Then it hit him... he could try to restrain this thing and-- "Kamui! Assist us!"

(Roll 1)

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
The kamui had disappeared, and was materializing around Watchman when the youkai man simply became black smoke-- or was it black flames? It almost looked like iridescent black feathers. Whatever it was, it burst outwards, knocking the snake god away and returning it to its tiny, unassuming form-- which the darkness suddenly blew back, in Itsuki's direction. Not only did Itsuki feel as if he'd been struck himself - by his connection to Kamui - but he got a face-full of panicking, honking snake.

"Just what were you trying to do?" he remarked as he resumed his own, solid shape, sounding slightly amused.

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
"On that note, you just got hit on the face with your own god, kid... So in a world where you could rate this sort of thing by number, you did very poorly, like one out of ten. Then, I hit you back with my magic, and if I had to give it a number, that'd be 85... Don't ask me where I'm getting this from, but 85 multiplied by 0.1 is 8.5. Which you couldn't defend against because it's not like you saw it coming or anything. So it's like, if your life could be rated, you'd take a hit of like, nine or something. Not that I'm calculating for you or anything."

[identity profile] grinandbear.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
So much for hope spot; the scenario had gone straight to past worrying and into run screaming territory, which were currently what all of Akito's instincts were doing right now. His mind didn't stop calculating-

Room sealed with purple flames; no weapon; terrifying threat; questionably useless group-

-but the tracts ended with failure. Akito hated getting into situations like this - if he was, it was going to be because he set it up, not someone else. Though he supposed this was what he got for banking his curiosity to payoff instead of throwing Araragi's note in the trash.

Well. Fortunately, Kudou's attack gave Akito time sneak to one of the treasure piles. He didn't know what would be of most use in a situation like this but having something was better than nothing.

((-1 from luck+roll 4=5))

His blind grab found him a scroll, much like the one that the rat had dropped when it exploded. Far from the useful item Akito had been hoping for. Before he could complete the thought 'Useless', however, the loosened seal holding the paper neatly closed coincidentally (?) broke when what almost felt like a breeze pushed out from the paper.

((Roll=7)

And then the breeze turned into an increasing gust, pushing the scroll open on its own, that Akito had enough sense to know he didn't want to be in its general area when it was completely open. Watchman was a convenient target though, and that's where Akito through the scroll.

[identity profile] thebardinator.insanejournal.com 2013-02-27 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
This made Watchman look mildly surprised. Just mildly, as he blocked the attack with both arms-- or at least, halfheartedly tried to (defense roll 2.)

(Damage 14 out of ??? Max HP.

"Huh... lucky, I suppose," he said. However, his attention was now on Akito. Not wanting to seem impolite, the security guard raised his hand, where black flame concentrated (Hellfire fireball). (Roll 7.)

(Watchman just used his action to attack Akito! It'll be everyone else's turn before Watchman attacks again...)

The new demon was so cool and big-brother like that Asami went on with her snooping, with a new determination. For she would let herself into her brother's room from time to time. She would do it very carefully, when she needed something. She had naturally been caught once or twice but was too strong-minded to pay it any attention.

She snuck further.

The man was not looking at her. It seemed focused on one of the people who'd joined. Then she rolled up to a pile of scrolls and paper leaning up against the wall. She felt the room grow hot behind her, and took the first she could see.

I got it! she thought triumphantly.

[Roll: 10]

Well. Things had gotten very exciting in quite a hurry. Unfortunately, Mitsuya didn't have much in the way of magic that would be of use in a fight like this--unless she could get in a conveniently-timed distraction--and so, after a cursory and unsuccessful scan for hidden exits, she decided to make herself useful (and, coincidentally of course, assuage her curiosity) by hunting through the treasure.

(Roll = 3; round up or down for 3 LUK?)
